WillowTree RV Resort & Campground and Ocean Lakes Family Campground offer very different camping experiences. Ocean Lakes is a massive beachfront campground in Myrtle Beach with over 3,000 sites, which means more crowds, closer site spacing, and a busier atmosphere. WillowTree, by contrast, has just 107 sites spread across 650 acres, giving guests significantly more privacy and space — sites average 100 feet in length with lush lawns between them. WillowTree’s setting on freshwater lakes with 7+ miles of nature trails provides a more peaceful, nature-immersive experience. While Ocean Lakes offers direct beach access, WillowTree is only a 20-minute drive to Cherry Grove Beach, and its fiber-optic WiFi, climate-controlled private bathhouse, and consistently high ratings (4.8 stars, Good Sam 10/10*/10) set it apart in quality.
Several factors distinguish WillowTree RV Resort from other campgrounds in the Myrtle Beach area. First, the sheer size and privacy: 650 acres with only 107 sites means each guest enjoys far more space and natural surroundings than at most coastal campgrounds. The sites themselves are among the largest in the area at 100 feet average length, fully paved with concrete patios. WillowTree’s unique amenities — including The Splash Zone in-lake waterpark (the only one on the Grand Strand), 40+ acres of freshwater lakes, Bark Beach for dogs, and a vintage Car Barn — are not found at competing campgrounds. The resort’s fiber-optic WiFi, climate-controlled private bathhouse, and consistently top-tier ratings (Good Sam 10/10*/10, Woodall’s 5W Diamond, 4.8 stars across 1,500+ reviews) further separate WillowTree from the pack.
Choosing an inland campground like WillowTree RV Resort offers several significant advantages over beachfront campgrounds near Myrtle Beach. Inland locations typically provide larger sites with more privacy, greener and more shaded natural surroundings, and a quieter atmosphere away from the heavy tourist traffic of the beach strip. WillowTree’s 650-acre property with freshwater lakes, nature trails, and mature landscaping delivers a true camping-in-nature experience that beachfront parks simply cannot match. You also avoid the salt air and sand that can damage your RV. At just 12 miles (20 minutes) from Cherry Grove Beach, you still have easy beach access whenever you want it — but you return each evening to a peaceful, spacious resort that feels worlds away from the crowds.
WillowTree RV Resort & Campground is an excellent choice for snowbirds looking to spend extended time in the Myrtle Beach area during the cooler months. The resort offers monthly rates that make longer stays affordable, and the mild South Carolina coastal climate provides pleasant temperatures through fall, winter, and spring. Snowbirds appreciate WillowTree’s spacious 100-foot pull-through sites with full hookups (30/50 amp), fiber-optic WiFi for staying connected, the heated pool and jacuzzi for year-round use, fitness center, pickleball courts, and the relaxed community atmosphere. The 650-acre property provides plenty of space for daily walks and bike rides on 7+ miles of trails. Nearby attractions, seafood restaurants in Calabash, NC, over 100 golf courses, and the beaches of North Myrtle Beach offer endless things to do. Many guests describe WillowTree as a hidden gem with a welcoming, friendly community — exactly what snowbirds are looking for in a seasonal home base.
